It is so much a part of American life that it has truly become a tradition in many ways. Hugely popular with all ages and both genders, those who play the game enjoy the various trappings of social status. How to play and understand football is the focus of this article.
Playing a specific position requires different physical and mental attributes. For instance, if you have the ability to run very fast, the coach will make you a running back. You can spot them when the offense lines-up to play because they will be positioned usually behind the quarterback. Blocking and protecting the quarterback is another function of this position. Once in a while you will see a trick play in which the running back will pass the ball. There are many more possible plays that a running back may do to help win the game.
Wide receivers are the ones who split out towards the sidelines, and run out for passes. When you watch the players run, the ones with the long, powerful strides are probably the wide receivers.
When the quarterback throws a long pass, it is usually being thrown to a wide receiver. Blocking isn’t what a wide receiver is known for, but sometimes it is an important thing for them to do. Should another receiver successfully catch a pass, the other wide receiver will immediately try to get into position to provide support with blocking and protection.
All football teams have what are called, special teams. These special teams are used for plays where the ball needs to be kicked. In these ball kicking plays, the ball may be punted or a field goal attempt is made. The field goal attempts are made right after a score or when there’s a three point attempt. The third play is done by kicking off to the other team, either at the beginning of the game, after a score or in the third quarter after halftime. The place kicker and the punter are the special team members, and there is also a need for the long snapper to snap the balls to the punter. And don’t forget the special team runners, who go and retrieve the ball after a kick-off punt has been made. When first launching into the football program, just bear in mind it’s not learned over night. This is not a game that can be quickly learned or even mastered. The results you receive will solely rely on your sweat and the degree of emphasis you give.
